HOLD FAST MY LIFE

Next

Hold fast my life amid the strife of mortal battles waging,
Where all around I hear the sound of wars and evils raging.
Still you are near, though I would fear your faithful hand would fail me.
Your ways are planned your word will stand, though all of hell assail me.

I cast my cares while unaware of daily mercies working,
For here below my serpent foe, though wounded, still is lurking.
But you, dear Friend, my soul defend from harms designed to thwart me,
And give instead my daily bread to strengthen and support me.

I call to mind your lovingkindness, shown with strength and meekness.
My darkest days you met with rays of hope amidst my weakness,
For on those roads you bore my load however rough the paths were.
Twas then as if the steepest cliffs gave way to gentle pasture.

May I endure with hope secure, though Satan should accuse me,
For though he tries to twist with lies, your justice won't refuse me.
I will be bold, for from your hold no enemy can sever,
Nor can erase your future grace in this life or forever.
